Founded in 1946 in Carugo by Enrico Cappellini, the company has become an icon of Italian design under the artistic direction of Giulio Cappellini. Patricia Urquiola is one of the most influential figures in contemporary design. Born in Oviedo in 1961, she studied architecture at the Universidad Politécnica in Madrid and at the Politecnico di Milano, where she graduated in 1989 under the mentorship of Achille Castiglioni.
She collaborated with Vico Magistretti and served as head of design at Lissoni Associati. In 2001, she founded her own studio in Milan, specializing in product design, architecture, and creative consultancy. Her prestigious clients include leading companies such as Cassina, B&B Italia, Alessi, Flos, and Moroso.
Her work is known for its innovative use of materials, formal experimentation, and a strong focus on sustainability. In 2015, she was appointed Creative Director of Cassina. Her projects are featured in international museums such as MoMA in New York and the Vitra Design Museum. In 2024, she was awarded the Gold Medal for Merit in Fine Arts by the Spanish government.
